TRADE RATIONALE

As intended, our four month holding period for Kohl’s ends today to coincide with its first quarter earnings report released yesterday. However, what was not planned was Macy’s reporting disastrous results the same day, which made all other big box retailers guilty by association. Although Kohl’s posted better than expected profits, its share price slumped due to a decline in its top-line revenue number. That’s a shame because Kohl’s seems to be doing a decent job of positioning itself for future growth, but right now the stock market is less interested in profitability than it is in sales volume so this trade went the wrong way on us.
