We have good exposure to the gold market with our Market Vectors Gold Miners (GDX) September 57 call option, and equity positions in Gabriel Resources (GBU.TO, GBRRF) and NovaGold Resources (NG).   Strong quarterly results today from the likes of Weatherford International and National Oilwell Varco suggest Nabors Industries (NBR) has further to rally. Look for some consolidation in the share price in the current area as a prelude to another leg up.   Mosaic (MOS) has been acting well in recent sessions and also offers additional upside potential. Our Mosaic (MOS) September 80 call option, however, is rated a hold since it’s still well out of the money.   Our lone short position, the Garmin January 33 put option, can still be purchased. The stock has put in a series of lower highs since early May and has the potential to decline significantly more from where it stands today. And the company’s earnings announcement next week could prove to the catalyst that brings about that decline.   Next regularly scheduled issue: Tuesday, August 2.   RESULTS SINCE AGGRESSIVE TRADER’S INCEPTION Read More

Last week we reduced the number of positions we hold. First, we closed the Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ) ETF on the expectations that the Fed will not let the markets deteriorate, for a 12 percent loss. In addition, our EMC (EMC) July 29 call option has expired.   We also opened one new position last week, leveraged to the downside – the Garmin January 33 put option. The stock has been week, although not as weak as its main rival, another maker of portable navigation systems TomTom NV. The company does not report until early August; in the meantime, we’ll be watching both stocks as they often move in tandem. New subscribers can open a position by setting a limit to pay no more than $3.80 per contract.   Our Mosaic (MOS) September 80 call option, while out of the money, is benefiting from the strong action in the stock today. Hold.   Gold has backed off from a record set yesterday, but our gold positions, which include the Market Vectors Gold Miners (GDX) September 57 call option, and equity positions in Gabriel Resources (GBU.TO, GBRRF) and NovaGold Resources (NG), have all benefited from its strong run. In addition, Gabriel Resources (GBU.TO, GBRRF) has received an extra boost as an independent panel the company had set up issued an archaeological discharge certificate for its open pit mine.   Read More
